Nicolás Rincón

Colombian-Belgian filmmaker who works between reality and imagination, with a strong political and aesthetic focus on his homeland. He has directed two fiction feature films: Iluminada, produced in Belgium by The Blue Raincoat, and Valley of Souls (Tantas almas, 2019) — San Francisco IFF, Glasgow FF, Camerimage, Brussels IFF, Festival des 3 Continents, Transilvania IFF, Marrakech IFF — which was also nominated for the Macondo Awards. Both films were shot with non-professional actors in locations that feed back into their narratives.
Before these two fiction works, he directed a documentary trilogy titled Campo Hablado, centered on oral tradition and political violence, composed of En lo escondido (2005) — winner at Cinéma du Réel —, The Embrace of the River (Los abrazos del río, 2010) — winner at the Nantes Festival des 3 Continents, selected for the Yamagata International Documentary FF and ZagrebDox —, and Wounded Night (Noche herida, 2015) — winner at Cinéma du Réel, the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival, and the Macondo Awards. All three were produced in Belgium by Voa Films.
His projects have been developed in programs such as the San Sebastian IFF Co-Production Forum and L’Atelier, Cinéfondation of Cannes. He is also a professor and mentor in various international film labs.
