1. RAW: Residencies Arché→Work is an itinerant programme supported by Ibermedia Programme and organized by Arché, Apordoc’s creative development lab in the scope of Doclisboa International Film Festival and Márgenes/Work, Márgenes Film Festival’s creative development lab.

2. RAW: Residencies Arché→Work takes place between October and November in Lisbon and Madrid that includes the participation in Arché, an artistic residency in Lisbon and the participation in Márgenes/Work.

3. RAW aims to create a privileged space of training and development with the following objectives:

  • To foster the cultural and economic relations between Spain and Portugal;
  • To promote the co-productions between member-countries of the Ibermedia Programme;
  • To create market access opportunities to emerging talents, respecting the artistic and economic specificities of each project and considering the production process as an authorial one process as well;
  • To foster the proximity between film production and film criticism and research.

4. RAW is dedicated to film projects that encompass a strong implication in the domain of the real – projects able to experiment the potential and boundaries of its documentary matrix and to young film researchers in the iberoamerican cinema field.

5. RAW targets emerging talents with a feature film project in the development, production or post-production stage as well as young film critics and researchers from member-countries of the Ibermedia Programme: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.

6. RAW is divided into two different strands: Creation Residencies, aiming at directors with a film project, and Criticism and Research Residencies.

7. Film projects that take part in the Creation Residencies run for the awards of Arché and Márgenes/Work.

8. The RAW programme starts in the context of Doclisboa, where participants attend the Arché programme and ends in the scope of Márgenes Film Festival, with the participation in Márgenes/Work. The programme of activities includes project development workshops, pitching sessions, individual tutorships, meetings with experts, networking activities, both on site and online. Between the two festivals, the selected directors and critics attend an artistic residency to deepen the work in their projects, while being tutored by an expert selected according to each project needs. During this period, they also attend a programme of meetings with experts, individual and collective, and masterclasses online. In 2022, in the scope of the artistic residency will also include the attendance of the 60th edition of the Gijón International Film Festival.

9. In 2022, RAW will take place in Lisbon, Gijón and Madrid, from October 12th and November 27th:
October 12 – 20: Arché (partially overlapping Doclisboa’s dates, Lisbon)
October 21 – November 10: Artistic Residencies (Lisbon)
November 11 – 19: Gijón International Film Festival
November 22 – 27: Márgenes/Work (in the scope of Márgenes Festival, Madrid)

10. Each selected project will be given 1 participation fellowship, with the support of the Ibermedia Programme, that includes:

  • Consulting guidance by a tutor, invited according each project’s needs, the whole duration of the programme;
  • Meetings with experts and online masterclasses;
  • Creative consulting sessions by film professionals;
  • Access to Arché and all associated activities;
  • Access to Doclisboa screenings and activities of its industry programme, Nebulae;
  • Access to Gijón International Film Festival and its industry programme, FICXPro (including film screenings, activities, welcome pack and publications);
  • Travel expenses from Lisbon to Gijón and from Gijón to Madrid;
  • Access to Márgenes/Work and all associated activities;
  • Access to Márgenes Film Festival screenings and activities;
  • Accommodation and a maintenance fee the whole duration of the programme, from the 12th of October until November 27th, including accommodation in Lisbon, Gijón and Madrid.

To each project 1 participation fellowship will be granted, to the director of the film project and to the critic/researcher. In the case of film projects, other elements of the films’ teams can take part in the activities, but the Organization must be informed and they must cover their expenses.

11. Travel costs must be ensured by the participants.

12. In 2022, calls for projects are open between April 11th to May 30th, at 23:59 (GMT+1).

13. Projects submissions are free of charge.

14. Applicants are required to fill in the application for and upload the materials as defined in the Call:

Creation Residencies

  • Project Dossier (max. 8 pages) in pdf format, that includes the following information in Portuguese, Spanish or English:
  • – Film title;
    – Synopsis;
    – Director’s intentions note;
    – Director’s notes with references to the formal and visual treatment;
    – Director’s bio-filmography
    – Producer’s and screenwriter’s bio-filmography (if applicable);
    – Bio-filmography of the production company (if applicable);
    – Link to the work-in-progess or rushes (if applicable);
    – Links to previous films (if applicable);
    – Provisional budget and financial plan;
    – Notes on the current state of development and project’s current needs;

  • Project stills or visual references.
  • Motivation letter (for the participation in RAW).
  • Copy of identity card or passport.

Criticism Residencies

  • Academic and professional curriculum vitae.
  • Description of the project to be developed in RAW.
  • Former research/film criticism work and/or articles (if applicable).
  • Motivation letter (for the participation in RAW).
  • Copy of identity card or passport.

Applications not complying with the requirements will not be considered.

15. The selection of the participating projects will be made by the Arché coordinators. If considered relevant, the coordinators will summon relevant professionals from the sector. The selection committee will take into account creativity and the use of innovative narrative and aesthetical tools as well as the project viability. For the final selection, video-call interviews will be held with all those pre-selected.

16. Selected participants will be informed of the results by e-mail up to a month before the festival. The information on participating projects will be under embargo until the official announcement to be made by the organization in www.arche-space-org and, social media and other communication channels.

17. Applicants must ensure their availability during RAW dates. Participation in all activities is mandatory.

18. The selected participants must have medical and travel insurance.

19. Participants will authorise the publication of the provided information in the official catalogue of Doclisboa and Márgenes, their website and social media, and other promotional materials, except for confidential data.

20. Projects selected to be part of RAW agree to use the RAW logotype in the film’s credits and promotional materials. Moreover, they agree to use the following wording “Participant Project at RAW” + RAW logo.

21. Projects winning Arché or Márgenes awards are also requested to use the award partner logo.

22. The submission of a project implies the knowledge and acceptance of these regulations.

23. The direction of Apordoc and Márgenes will decide on all matters not covered by these regulations according to the film festival international rules.
